OwnWay Apparel is excited to announce a brand new partnership with multiple Ironman champion, Matt Russell. A well-known face on the Ironman and 70.3 circuit, Matt has been racing triathlons for nearly 10 years, the majority of those as a professional. Friendly and approachable, he is a fan favourite and has an impressive roster of wins to his name. After a devastating collision with a van during the 2017 Ironman World Championship, Matt had a challenging road to recovery but pulled off a sixth place finish at Kona last year and inspired the triathlon world with his comeback, proving that anything is possible when you work hard and dream big. A dedicated family man, Matt can regularly be seen at found with his young son Makaio and wife Gillian. As a family owned company, OwnWay shares Matt's values on and off the race course and are excited to support him this season as he aims to have an even better year, aiming for the podium at this year's Ironman World championship. He designed his custom 2019 kit with this goal in mind:
"My kit design is heavily inspired by Hawaii. The Big Island has always been a special place for me; it's brought me some of the best gifts of my life and also some of the biggest challenges. 2017 was my year of survival, hence the 17 incorporated into the design. The Hawaiian symbols of warrior and strength mean a lot to me, as I have had a lot to overcome and have had to stay strong during difficult times."
Matt is thrilled to be working with OwnWay this season, and loves the feel and comfort of the high-quality kits they offer as well as the option to go his own way with his design and help strength his brand with a kit that truly represents who he is:
"Racing an Ironman is a long day and wearing a comfortable and aero kit is very important to me. The quality and feel of OwnWay apparel is top notch. I’m looking forward to training and racing in OwnWay apparel all year as I work towards my goals."
Of the partnership, OwnWay founder Chris McDonald says:
"After racing along side Matt for close to a decade I always admired the way he went about things with dignity, determination and pure class. It’s great to also be working alongside Matt off the race course to produce his apparel. We are looking forward to some awesome collaborations and pumped to have him on our OwnWay roster."
Matt's custom kit will be available for sale in men's and women's cuts later this spring. Follow us on social media and visit the website for release date.
